Program

The conference will inform participants about the current legal principles applicable to interpretations, special exceptions, variances, validity appeals, nonconforming uses, curative amendments, subdivision plans, planned developments, miscellaneous procedural problems, and other zoning matters.

Following are some of the issues that will be discussed:

  • Is an appeal permissible from a spot zoning decision?
  • Must a school district comply with the use regulations of a zoning ordinance?
  • What are the necessary criteria for a dimensional variance?
  • Does the metropolitan planning commission permit a modification of a planned residential development (PRD) requirement?
  • Should/Must you make provisions for PRDs in your ordinance?
  • May a zoning hearing board discuss and deliberate issues in private without violating the Sunshine Act?

This conference is designed for zoning officers, planning commission members, council members, realtors, civil engineers, commissioners and supervisors, zoning hearing board members, and all others involved with zoning administration. Real estate developers, municipal solicitors, and attorneys for developers may also benefit from this program. Please note: Application has been made for 5.5 substantive credit hours from the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board.

Instructors

Fredrick A. Boehm (retired) and Daniel F. Gramc are attorneys with the law firm of Goehring Rutter & Boehm in Pittsburgh, with an extensive practice in the area of zoning law.
