Setting up Remote Views and Connections

There are two ways to connect to a remote data source. You can directly access any ODBC data sources registered on your computer or you can use the connection designer to design a custom connection.

Remote Views:

Create a new Project (MyProj)and save it in a new folder (Reviews). Select Database and choose New. Give it a name (MyData) and save it in the same folder. When the Data Designer Screen comes up select New Remote View from the Database menu. Select Available Data sources to choose a remote server..

Once you click OK you will be prompted for your userid and password. Enter the information when the following window is displayed.

Click on Options and enter the database name. Click OK.

A list of tables will pop up. Select the ones that you want to be added to the database

Connections:

Alternatively, you can choose Connections. This will bring up the Connection Designer. You can set connection options and save and name the connection for future use.

Once the connection is established, the Open dialog box displays so you can select a table on the remote server. After you select a table, the View Designer appears.

Now you are ready to create reports.
