"Helping people maintain harmony with the natural systems that support all life."

Director Mark McLaughlin:
Day Hikes with Kids

Welcome to Shaver's Creek!

Shaver's Creek is closed annually from mid-December to January 31. Join us instead at our Pennsylvania Farm Show area in Harrisburg January 10–17.

As Penn State's nature center, our experienced faculty and staff teach courses for Penn State students and provide environmentally sound programming for schools, children, youths, teachers, and the community. Have the experience of a lifetime at:

Enjoy our Raptor Center (view a Raptor Center video), with twenty birds of prey, our hiking trails, picnic areas, bookstore and gift shop, and our Discovery Room, with snakes, turtles, kid-friendly displays, and more. Hikers enjoy our many trails around Lake Perez, including the boardwalk over the wetlands at the head of the lake. The trails are also used for mountain biking and, in the winter, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. Visit on our upcoming events page for our latest outdoor experiences.

We think you will love Shaver's Creek as much as the children, students, and families who have visited us before. We welcome you to become a member and join us for a natural experience you'll always treasure!

The Shaver's Creek staff strives to touch all populations with a message of respect for the environment through a variety of program offerings.

Mission:
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center is committed to extending the University's Outreach mission of instruction, service, and research. Through quality programs, we teach, model, and provide the knowledge, values, skills, experiences, and dedication that enable individuals and communities to achieve and maintain harmony between human activities and the natural systems that support all living species.

Vision:
Our vision is to be an exemplary environmental education and training center known for quality experiential programs that enable people to learn how to live and interact harmoniously and sustainably with each other and the natural world.
