Library Research Help Is Just a Click Away!
Have you ever been working at home on a course assignment or paper and found yourself in need of research information? The Penn State University Libraries' Ask! resource is just the tool you need! Available at http://ask.libraries.psu.edu/, Ask! allows you to contact a librarian in a real-time chat session or by e-mail. It also provides contact information for reference desks and individual librarians.
In a virtual reference session you will have one-on-one interaction with a librarian. Using co-browsing technology, the librarian can show you how to identify and use the many journals and databases available on the Libraries' Web site or how to search the Internet for other authoritative sites. At the end of the session you will receive an e-mail transcript of your conversation so that you can reference the librarian's instructions as you work on your project. The Ask! e-mail service is monitored seven days a week with a twenty-four-hour response time. Many inquiries receive a response within a few hours. You can also use Instant Messenger (IM) to contact a librarian. Simply use the list of screen names on the Ask! Web page.
For those who prefer to work independently, there are many other useful tools on the Libraries' Web site. A variety of library tutorials are available at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/instruction/tutorials.htm. World Campus students can also access the Libraries' World Campus page at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/instruction/world/index.htm for an array of resources and services available to distance learners.
Ask! Reference Service Fall and spring semesters Monday–Wednesday, noon–midnight Thursday, noon–9:00 p.m. Sunday, 6:00–9:00 p.m. http://ask.libraries.psu.edu/
