How to Choose a Good Christmas Tree.
presented by Indiana County Extension Agent, Bob Pollock

If you're in the market for a Christmas tree, there are a few things you should do to make sure your tree lasts through the holidays.

First, bend some of the needles gently between your fingers to make sure they spring back.

It's also a good idea to bump the stem of the tree on the ground a few times. You can expect some of the needles to drop, but if a lot of them fall, the tree may not be as fresh as you'd like.

Also, check out the trunk it should look moist and full of sap.

Once you get your tree home, store it a bucket of water in a cool, protected area until you're ready to decorate.

Then, make a fresh cut on the stem trimming about one inch.

And most important of all, make sure the tree's water supply is always full once it's in the stand. Stands with at least a four-quart water capacity are recommended, as smaller ones may dry out in as little as eight hours.
