Workshop 2: Beyond Utility to Amenity: Artful Stormwater Design

Learn how "artful rainwater design," celebrates rainwater and presents a timely opportunity for landscape architects to intertwine hydrological stewardship with significant place-making. Grounded in the study of selected projects nationwide, this course presents specific design examples and techniques to transform stormwater management into experientially rich artful rainwater design.

Additional follow-up and case study information is also provided on the Web at http://www.artfulrainwaterdesign.net/.

This session provides greater understanding of the innovative site design opportunities posed by new stormwater requirements using a strategy we call "artful rainwater design." Case study examples of various artful rainwater designs nationwide show ways that pioneering designers have transformed excess runoff from perceived waste product into an exciting design resource. The presentation provides specific examples of types of site amenities achievable with rainwater and specific design means to accomplish them—all intended to provide audience members with ideas and inspiration for their own artful rainwater designs.
