Preconference Workshop

A preconference workshop will be available again this year for those who arrive early and want to expand their knowledge and/or earn additional continuing education credits. The workshop will be offered on Monday, March 17, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., at the Hershey Lodge. Preregistration is required. Please see the Fee and Registration page for preconference fee information.

This year's preconference workshop is entitled, State-of-the-Art Technological Developments in Concrete, and will consist of three one-hour talks on the following topics:

*   advances in structural concretes

*   advances in concrete for blast protection

*   nanotechnology applications in concrete

 

Preconference Presenters:

Dr. Barry Scheetz
Dr. Scheetz is a professor of civil engineering at Penn State and director of the Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies. He received his doctorate in geochemistry and mineralogy from Penn State in 1976. His interests include:
.    Cement systems chemistry
.    Design of formulations in nontraditional cement systems
.    Nanoseeding in concrete
.    Industrial ecology and waste management, including large-volume uses of industrial by-products

Dr. Daniel Linzell, P.E.
Dr. Linzell is an assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering at Penn State. He received his doctorate in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999. His interests include:
.    Steel structures
.    Full-scale and model testing of structures under static and dynamic loads
.    Field instrumentation and investigation of existing structures
.    Bridge engineering
.    Advanced finite element analysis
 
Dr. Andrea Schokker
Dr. Schokker is an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the Protective Technology Center at Penn State. She received her doctorate in structural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. Her interests include:
.    Segmental concrete bridge design and construction
.    Design and material related improvements in prestressed concrete
.    Cementitious-based materials for blast and impact resistance
.    Durability of concrete structures
.    Corrosion of metals in concrete
