Activated Sludge--6 hours, 0.6 CEU

Activated Sludge addresses several critical concerns related to the treatment process. "Floc Formation" reviews floc development, aging of floc, and undesired floc. "The Nutrients: Nitrogen and Phosphorus" presents the roles performed by these major bioelements in the degradation of wastes, their readily available forms, indicators of nutrient deficiency, nutrient deficient conditions, nutrient monitoring, and nutrient addition. "Heavy Metals" addresses inhibition, toxicity, and acclimation in the treatment process, factors responsible for susceptible or resistant biomass to a toxic upset, indicators of toxicity, and partitioning or removal of metals. "Bioaugmentation" provides an overview of the basic concepts and uses associated with the addition of saprophytic and nitrifying bacteria.
