James Korner
Assistant Vice President for Penn State Professional Education
Jim Korner, , B.M., M.B.A., is the assistant vice president for Penn State Professional
Education. He has been with Penn State and Outreach since January 2008. In his current role, Jim provides leadership to the noncredit alliance that includes Conferences,
Corporate Learning, Justice and Safety
Institute, Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP), Small
Business Development Center, and Statewide Continuing Education. Through this alliance, programs, services, and technical consultation are provided for corporations and
individuals throughout Pennsylvania and the United States. Additionally, Jim maintains an academic connection through his faculty appointment in the School of Hospitality
Management.
Prior to joining Penn State, Jim had dedicated thirty years to gathering a portfolio of experiences in a variety of leadership and administrative capacities. Coloring the perspective Jim brings to Penn State are his university experiences from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Ohio University, and Seattle Pacific University. In addition to administrative roles within the academy, Jim spent two years as a consultant for H. David Porter Associates and served as the president of the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) in 2000.
Prior to pursuing a career in higher education, Jim served as the deputy director of the Brain Rehabilitation Research Center, one of only thirteen research centers of excellence in the Veterans Health Administration. Along with providing leadership to the operation of the center Jim also consulted and trained services chiefs in problem solving and process improvement strategies and techniques.
Jim earned his B.M. degree from Ohio University and his M.B.A. from Webster University.
